Discovering The Real You Will Help You Be More Authentic
Yesterday I got an interesting conversation with someone who asked how we could stop hiding behind a mask and be more authentic? She was referring to a friend, but during the conversation was shocked to discover that she was doing the same.
However, it’s not that strange. In fact almost all of us are hiding behind a mask in one one way or another. Some conscious, but most of us unconscious because we have been conditioned to behave in a certain way, and this certain way has become so habitual that it feels natural.
However, it’s not! It’s not the real you!
Science has now discovered that we have mental fractures vibrating in our cells that are from our bloodline up to 7 generations back. Because of our past generations and their life experiences, our upbringing, religions, education and politics, we have been conditioned to behave in certain ways to protect ourselves from harm and satisfy the expectancy of others.
That’s probably why most teenagers act like rebells when they grow up. A lot of what they learn is mental conditioning and limiting their freedom. Later in life, most will have lost that connection with their real self and the freedom to be who they were meant to be. Depending on how far someone has drifted away, some will fight what can seem like an eternal struggle because they fight an internal battle trying to become who they are “supposed” to be…
It’s also very logic that revealing the real you can feel uncomfortable and unsafe. We live in a society where we are judged, compared, accepted or rejected. And even if our politicians have their mouth full of the word “freedom” and “support” evidence shows that they only create more regulations and rules in an attempt to try to condition their citizens to “walk in line.”
That said, there is little value in blaming others, it only serves to learn where something comes from. Once we recognize the origins, we can weed out what doesn’t serve us anymore, and replace it with new patterns that will help us find ways to become more authentic and true to the real you.
How To Be Authentic
Can you be happy living in this hypnotic state of mental conditioning? Sure you can, because most of the intentions that others have for us are good intentions. There is nothing wrong with your parents wanting you to become a doctor, a lawyer, or a famous politician. Ambition in life drives us to our higher evolution. However, if it’s not what you want, and you don’t have natural talents and abilities for it, but you’ll try anyway to please your parents, you’ll end up with a lot of suffering and dissatisfaction.
If you find yourself yearning for things to change, wishing that you could be somebody else, or wanting to live a totally different lifestyle than the one you’re living now, maybe it’s time to discover the real you and what makes you tick.
It doesn’t matter if you believe in reincarnation or if you believe you only get one life and this is it. The fact you are here you likely realize how important it is to live the life you desire NOW! The best way to accomplish this is by discovering the real “you” inside and catering to what’s most important to you.
So how do you start the process of unraveling the persona you’ve become to reveal who you really are?
Here are a few questions to help you reveal the real you
Your answers to these questions will help you uncover your true self:
1. Who are you really?
Would you love to dive into that intellectual and spiritual part of you that you’ve ignored over the past years? What do your innermost feelings and thoughts tell you about who you really are?
- Think about the times when you’ve been happiest. These are great clues to learning who you really are. What made you so happy? Where were you? Who were you with? What influence had this on your happiness?
2. Are you truly happy now?
When you look closely, do you feel joy about your life? Or do you feel like all you’re doing is trying to keep up with your neighbors, colleagues, friends, or family rather than doing what you really want? And if you’re not happy now, what do you think should change to make you feel happy?
3. What do you want to be remembered for?
Be careful with this question, because your ego might jump in, and although ego can be a good thing, try to control it so that you don’t make this important for everyone else. Try to really “feel” what is important to you, doing the things you like and enjoy because… you just do.
Cultivate your thoughts about what you want to be doing with your life right now or in the future. By fulfilling your hopes and dreams, you’ll be remembered as a successful person who knows how to be real.
4. What are your top three dreams?
Answer this question quickly, without thinking too hard, and jot them down. The first answers that come to mind are probably pretty close. Have you achieved these dreams yet? If not, are you working toward them at least a little bit each day? If not, why not, and what can you do today to get one step closer?
5. What do you plan to do with your life?
Contemplate this question to help you discover what’s really important to you. Let yourself get excited and develop a joyful anticipation about what you’ll be doing next in your life.
- You’ve heard the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” However, the builders of Rome did have to make progress every day. Re-focusing on what you truly want and setting up your daily life to stay on task will move you closer to your goals and reveal more about yourself.
- Think about what you must do today and tomorrow to move toward fulfilling your hopes and desires. When you really want something, knowing that you’re coming closer to it each day will, in itself, bring you increased happiness and excitement for your future.
Answering these questions to unearth your true feelings at least once a year is a good idea. And although most will tell you to do it during the traditional New Year’s Resolutions period, it doesn’t matter when you do it. What matters is that you are doing it, and TODAY is a perfect day.
Doing so will help you discover the changes you’ll need to make. And when you have the courage to set out a new direction for your life, this discovery of the real you will help you stay on track in terms of having the life that you truly want.
